I went to the Adelaide Motorshow tonight. It was a little disappointing as there was no where near the amount of prestige and sports cars there this year. The stand out of the show though was the Coupe 60 from General Motors Holden (GMH). It was a sleek, sexy beast that just oozed power and commanded your attention. It once again stole Ford's thunder. It is currently only a prototype but could go into production in the future.
In my opinion the most surprising car came from Audi. The R8 looks fantastic. Sleek, elegant and almost affordable. People seemed to be magnetically drawn to the car. No one else was looking at any of the other cars that Audi were displaying. You could see influences of Lamborghini, Bugatti Veyron and Maserati in it. The engine is rear mounted and has a clear cover. There is would be at least $20,000 worth of carbon fibre covering various parts of the car - most noticeably near the doors and in the engine bay.
Holden had a separate display for all their other prototype cars which includes the convertible Monaro dubbed 'Marilyn', an update to their iconic seventies shaggin' wagon known as the 'Sandman', the awesome looking 'Torana' (an Aussie motoring classic) and the incredible 'Efijy' which wowed them in the States. It was a tribute to the Australian motoring legend - the FJ Holden.
There was of course some classic cars. Holden Monaros, a couple of Ford GTHO Phase III's, hot rods, Chevy Bel-Airs and plenty of other cool looking vehicles.
Despite the lack of prestige, high end motor vehicles it was still worth going. The crowd numbers were low and that was pleasant. A lot the car manufacturers are producing cars that seem to be identical to their competitors. They need to stand out form the crowd.
Here are a couple Ferrari's for good measure:
One of the biggest drawcards was out in tjhe parking lot. It is a VW Kombie van covered in fake grass.
Adelaide's 15-day strong heat wave has finally ended. And it's about bloody time too. The heat broke several records including longest heat wave experienced in any Australian capital city, hottest March day since 1984, and we are set to have the hottest March on record. Bring on winter!
It is now official, Adelaide is going through its worst heat wave on record. It has reached over 35 degrees celcius for the past nine days. Today it was over 38. To add insult injury it is only going to get hotter and there is no relief in sight until at least next Wednesday. That would make it seventeen days in a row for 35+ degree heat. Any person who is a climate change sceptic and is brave enough to air their opinion here, I am sure would be beaten to a bloody pulp. The heat is making everyone lethargic and bad tempered. Please let the be some cool weather coming. We can't take this much longer.
Adelaide is currently going through a record breaking heatwave. I went to bed earlier tonight but I just couldn't nod off. The two fans in my bedroom are just moving the air hot air around. So I decided to hop in my car and just drive around the city for a while. The airconditioning in my car doesn't work so I wound the windows down. I had no particular destination in mind but I ended up driving through Adelaide's industrial area. I received a text message on my mobile phone. Surprised at getting a message so late at night, I did the right thing and pulled over to the side of the road to find out who it was from. As I was retrieving my phone from the pocket of my shorts there was a tap on the windscreen. I nearly cacked myself. There was a scantily clad woman in her thirties asking me "what was I after?" I didn't immediately understand what she wanted but then it dawned on me. She was a prostitute. I didn't see her standing in the shadows waiting for her next "john". If you could have seen my face I am sure it would have appeared bright red. I apologised profusely to the lady and stated that I was just pulling over to answer the phone. She seemed to accept that. She walked off down the road and I drove off feeling most embarassed.
It has been a busy few months for me. I have a few days off after Christmas so I will write about them soon. Today's post is a bragging session about my photography.
A few weeks ago I was sent an e-mail that said one of my photos had been chosen for the cover of a magazine. I was absolutely stoked as it is my first magazine cover. It is a free magazine that is a free guide to parks, reserves, indoor and outdoor activities. The magazine can be found at:
Hungry Jacks
Spotlight
Bank SA
Adelaide City Council
Your Local Council Office
Tourism SA
Harris Scarfe
Adelaide International Airport
Interstate Train & Bus Terminals
The photograph that was chosen was this one:
and this is the end result:
It is currently displayed quite prominently on a china cabinet in my lounge.
This is not the end of my good luck. As I was writing this, I was informed that another photo of mine was used in a "Designer Spotlight" on iStockphoto.
The image used this time was:

My partner was quite amused. Unfortunately for her the injury was not staged. It happened for real at her workplace.
